The Desert Eagle is a semi-automatic, gas-fired firing gun, designed in the United States by Magnum Research and manufactured primarily in Israel by IMI (Israel Military Industries), now Israel Weapons Industry. Production was transferred to Saco Defense in Maine between 1996 and 2000, hence the name XIX, but returned to Israel when Saco was purchased by General Dynamics.
Due to its easily recognizable silhouette and its heavy caliber cartridges, the Desert Eagle has become an almost archetypal weapon in popular culture.
Magnum Research has advertised several versions of the Jericho 941 short recoil gun under the name Baby Eagle . These have no relation with the Desert Eagle, with which they only share a moderate resemblance in what respects.
