The Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion , designated S-80E by the manufacturer, is a heavy transport helicopter created by the American Sikorsky Aircraft company for the US Marines . It is the largest helicopter in service with the United States Armed Forces , and is in fact the largest aircraft of its kind in the United States . It was developed from the CH-53 Sea Stallion , mainly adding a third engine.
There is a less common variant called MH-53E Sea Dragon that was created to meet the needs of the United States Navy for heavy cargo transportation and long-range mine search, localization, and mine clearance missions . US marines and sailors, on the other hand, often call the Super Stallion Hurricane Maker due to the whirlwind generated by the helicopter.
A new model derived from the CH- 53K is now being developed called CH-53K King Stallion , which will feature new engines, new composite blades, and a wider cabin.
