The Turkish Air Force is the aerial branch of the Turkish Armed Forces. It is one of the oldest air forces in the world and operates the third largest fleet in NATO aircraft, behind the US Air Force and the Royal Air Force. Due to the strategic position of Turkey in the vicinity of the Middle East has been involved in numerous fighting in the last decades.
The history of the Ottoman military aviation starts between June 1909 and July 1911 Squads flight Ottomans took part in the Balkan Wars (1912-1913) and World War I (1914-1918). The active fleet reached 90 aircraft by December 1916. After World War I Turkey would try to rebuild their fleet creating the post of Inspector General Government Air Force, although in reality there was no staff and was just a title on paper.
